Post Office

There is no excitement in the world like that of taking my dirty little key to the post office, inserting it into box 75 and turning it. I cannot wait to see what surprise awaits me in there. A Donnie Darko DVD from Netflix! A thank you card! A bill I have already paid online because the letter carrier kept losing things before I took out a post office box. My photos still aren't here...but the anticipation of looking into that tiny box at waist level is empowering. She sent me a card to thank me for the coffee maker, licking that nasty envelope just so I know she'll enjoy her coffee now. And 41 cents to say it all. Letters and cards are lost arts. The internet has condemned stationary. I like paper and pens because they require all of your attention. If I am sending you an email, there is a good chance (unless you are superspecial) that I am doing many other things. Talking to a friend 3,000 miles away. Reading an article my by my favorite columnist in California (www.rubysohoadventures.blogspot.com/). Sending a quick message to my amazing brother who lives an hour away. And/or looking at photos taken by a friend in Tennessee (the state I love the best and cannot explain why). Oh! But a letter or a card takes my undivided attention. Stamps are so expensive.
